Being a Sabi Sabi Ranger represents more than just a stable income - it's a symbol of honour in our community. For the past 45 years, Sabi Sabi has become a breeding ground for exceptional talent, with our sought-after Rangers often being recruited by other high-end lodges.

Our training philosophy has always been holistic, covering all facets of conservation, and our Rangers don't merely act as guides who introduce guests to the wild but as contributors to an integrated luxury safari and hospitality experience. 

A New Standard in Ranger Training

This month, we proudly announced the Sabi Sabi Ranger Academy, a pioneering initiative aimed at redefining luxury safari and hospitality training. Our curriculum, developed in collaboration with Bushwise, elevates the already high standards set by CATHSETA, where we have incorporated a comprehensive module incorporating advanced certifications in first aid, rifle handling, vehicle maintenance, wildlife photography, social media and hospitality management, which extends beyond the foundational CATHSETA NQF2 framework.  

Open to individuals over 21 with a Grade 12 certificate, South African citizenship and a valid driver's license, our candidates undergo a rigorous selection process before starting their six-month programme at the training facility situated in Sabi Sabi. Each year, the Academy welcomes eight new students, 50% hailing from our local communities. Notably, four of these candidates receive full scholarships through funding from the Sabi Sabi Foundation and the Gillespie Foundation. Following their training, students participate in a six-month lodge placement programme to gain hands-on experience, with Sabi Sabi having the first choice of placement, which is likely to lead to permanent employment.

Sabi Sabi Ranger Academy students acquire a comprehensive skill set that prepares them for immediate employment within the luxury safari and hospitality industry and ensures that they are primed to excel in their careers. By infusing the Sabi Sabi philosophy into the curriculum, we equip Rangers with profound insight into our operations and ethos, providing them not only with practical skills but with an understanding of what it takes to succeed at Sabi Sabi and beyond.
