A Week in the Bush Vol. 121
on Sep 22, 2016The bush has been producing some absolutely incredible sightings for us over the last week with predator activity being at an all time high. The prevailing conditions on the reserve are still very dry even though we had a few millimeters of rain a few days back and as a result the herbivores are having a hard time of it. The predators however, are capitalizing in a very big way and all our carnivores are looking fantastic! We’ve had phenomenal lion viewing almost daily, the leopards have been active on all fronts as well as a few confrontations amongst the males of the area, a male cheetah visited us for a few days and the hyenas have been having a field day with all the carcass leftovers.
General game sightings have also been fantastic, especially with regards to birding, although we’ve had some great sightings with pretty much everything else as well. Baboons, warthogs, bushbucks and nyalas have been frequenting the lodges as well as the immediate surroundings as food becomes more scarce out in the bush and this often gives us great viewing at the lodge waterholes. The buffalo herds have moved on in search of longer grasses elsewhere, while buffalo bulls and the many different short grass specialists such as wildebeest, zebra and waterbuck have been more than plentiful on our safari excursions.
All in all, the game viewing at Sabi Sabi at the moment is sensational! We hope you have enjoyed this week’s highlights.
Until next time...
