The transformation of Little Bush Camp is complete. In the Sabi Sabi Lodges' design philosophy with Selati Camp being "Yesterday", Bush Lodge "Today" and Earth Lodge "Tomorrow", Little Bush Camp is now the transition between the traditional, but eclectic Bush Lodge and the contemporary, more modern Earth Lodge.

The re-creation of this stunning, intimate camp began with the recent renovation of its 6 luxurious suites into a masterpiece of comfort and beauty. African inspired accommodation with an unimpeded flow of space which creates a magnificent illusion of bringing the outdoors into the indoors was just the start of the major revamp of Little Bush Camp.

Talented designers Derrick Tabbert Interiors and Design Republic, were tasked with re-designing the central reception, lounge and dining areas. They had, as their canvas, the dramatic architecture of the main building - a sweeping high thatched roof with huge wooden beams cover the entire structure, the open sided walls supported by massive logs. The entire frontage creates a glorious frame through which to view the bushveld beyond.

There are unexpected and wondrous design elements which begin right at the reception desk - a concrete block topped with a massive slab of solid Matumi wood, and a bolt of light made from resin which is lit diagonally across the desk. Behind this amazing piece of furniture hangs a handmade wood, metal and glass "curtain", and on the high walls, floor to ceiling hand-painted chevrons depicting the African art of basket weaving.

The gently glittering quartz floors, in earthy metallic tones, draw one's eye from reception to the next delight, the beautiful lounge with its intimate seating areas. Here, specially designed armchairs, sofas and ottomans upholstered with natural fabrics and leather accents, invite one to sit, relax and ponder on the uniqueness of the fireplace. This signature conversation piece is a floor to ceiling shimmering mantel, totally clad in individual copper 5 cent coins.

The bar area, once just a small sitting space, is now a sociable wrap-around area with drop-down canvas and leather awnings in case of inclement weather. Exquisite new furniture, in the dining area, in keeping with the edgy new style is just perfect for the delicious cuisine, and cushioned hanging chairs suspended on the outdoor deck are a fabulous spot to gently sway while listening to the sounds of birdsong.

The lights in the lodge have become a feature all of their own. Huge wire chandeliers inspired by African jewellery and traditional wire toy craftsmen hang from the high wooden roof beams. Copper glass lamps illuminate the bar area, shining down onto a roughly hewn bar table surrounded by high wooden stools. Hessian and hand carved wooden shades adorn tall standing lamps.

There are so many unique touches in the new design of Little Bush Camp's central living area that they are almost too numerous to describe. Suffice to say the finished product is quite simply, spectacular.

Once the little brother of the Sabi Sabi group of lodges, Little Bush Camp has become a joyous celebration of African adornment and character, an intimate luxurious camp with a style all of its own.
